I live about 30 miles North of Lompoc, California. Lompoc is located about 17 miles Southwest of Vandenberg Air Force Base, so it is closely related to the military. Bodger Seed Company has been in business in Lompoc since the 1930's.

In the Spring of 2002, there was a special flower field planted. As a patriotic gesture after the tragedy of September 11, 2001, Bodger Seed Company planted this floral flag in Lompoc, California.

It bloomed in June 2002. It is 740 feet long, 390 feet wide, (about 7 city blocks for its length), 6.65 acres, and contains more than 400,000 larkspur plants with more than 2 million blooms. It is the first Floral Flag to be planted with 5 pointed Stars comprised of White Larkspur. Each Star is 24 feet in diameter; Each Stripe is 30 feet wide.

Bodger Seed Company planted a floral flag in 1942 to honor those who served in the Armed Forces in World War II, and another floral flag was planted in 1952 to honor those who served in the Korean War. All of the flags were comprised of Red, White and Blue Larkspur flowers. This is a mural of the 1942 floral flag.
